October - Ladies Coffee Morning |
|
| The Ladies
of Hamilton Bowling Club are actively engaged in charity
fundraising throughout the year but the Coffee Morning is the
main event in their efforts. At the end of this day, over £3400
was raised and this will be handed to charities in due course.
Well done, Ladies! |

|
| Saturday 1st
October - Dinner & Presentation of Prizes |
|
| The dinner
and presentation of prizes was held in the Clubhouse this year.
Everyone agreed that the dinner, which was provided by Linda
Sneddon, was excellent. After the trophies and engraved crystal
glasses were handed out to the competition winners, we were
entertained by the Jolly B's. A great night was had by all who
attended. |

|
| Friday 23rd
/Monday 26th September - Closing of the Green |
|
| That's
bowling over for another year. The ladies held their closing
ceremony on Friday and the gents held theirs on Monday. All we
can do now is look forward to season 2012 and hope that we can
win more silverware then! |
| |
|
| Sunday 4th
September - Friendly v. Aberfeldy |
|
This
friendly game had more significance than usual as the Aberfeldy
Club is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Before the
game, President Harry Dick presented our hosts with an engraved
crystal vase to mark the occasion and this was accepted by
Aberfeldy's President, Tom MacDougall.
The match was played in a very friendly spirit and so the result
was of little importance. However, Hamilton won by 100 shots to
78 so the trophy made its way back down the A9. |

Thursday 25th August - Championship Finals |
|
The Finals of the
Club's Ladies and Gents Championships were started on Wednesday
evening but, sadly, torrential rain stopped play after only 30
minutes. The two games resumed on Thursday evening when the
weather was much kinder and as a result we had two very
skilful matches.
The Ladies Champion for 2011 is Emily McLelland, who won over
Jean Muirhead.
The Gents Championship was won by Archie Syme, who beat Bob
Moffat. |

August - Invitation Triples Tournament |
|
At last! A dry sunny
day on which we could all enjoy our bowling. The weather was
ideal and it obviously inspired some great bowling. There were

it came down to an exciting final. The winners were the Club's
own George Wade, David Hamilton and skip Tom Priestley and the
runners up, who were from Motherwell, were Jim Gilmour, Billy
Davison and skip Andy Campbell.

| Monday 15th
August
- Ladies Balloted Pairs |
|
| Despite only 16 ladies
taking part in the Ladies Balloted Pairs Competition, we had a
really good day. After President Lillian had presented the
trophy to the winners (Ray McIntyre and Skip Rosemary Douglas)
we all enjoyed home baking for afternoon tea. The runners up,
who only lost at the last end after a close game were Mary
Thompson and Jane Fairlie. |

August
- Ladies Balloted Triples |
|
| 18 ladies played in the
rescheduled balloted triples on a lovely warm day. As numbers

other. The winners were Jean Muirhead, Sheena Mailer and Jane
Fairlie (Skip), and the runners up were Marion McKenzie,
Margaret Miller and Rosemary Douglas. |

|
| Saturday 6th
August
- Club Optional Triples |
|
| At last, a better day!
Although there was some rain, it was mainly during the morning
tea break and the lunch break. (That gave us an excuse to spend
longer enjoying Linda Sneddon's excellent buffet!) The day was
enjoyed by all and, if the final could be judged by the "Ooh"s
and "Aah"s from the spectators, it must have been something
special. The winners were Anne Loudon, Elizabeth Batty and Jim
Loudon who beat Moira Mackay, Alan Noble and Dougie McIntosh
after a burnt end and an extra end. |

|
| |
|
| Thursday 4th
August
- Senior Invitation Triples Competition |
|
| Sadly, the Ladies
Section jinx seems to have caught up with the Gents. The morning
started off with heavy rain but this soon eased off to a
downpour! For the health of the green and for the safety of
competitors, the competition was cancelled. |
|
| |
|
| Wednesday 3rd
August
- Ladies Two Bowl Singles |
|
| Twenty eight ladies
played in the President's Two Bowl Singles on a very warm humid
day. Five non-players came along for a beautiful salad and sweet
(with a glass of wine, of course!) which was prepared by players
during games off. The semi-finals were played between section
winners and then in the final, May Boothman played Hazel Lawie
with May just beating Hazel in a very good game. |
 |
| |
|
| Wednesday 6th July
- Ladies Balloted Triples |
|
The Ladies Section jinx
continues! The competition got off to a fine (but slightly damp)

game had to be stopped.
Another attempt to play will be made on Monday 8th August. |

| Saturday 2nd July

buffet meal and entertainment. During a brief respite, a cheque
for £1000was presented to Teeda Boyd of Alzheimer Scotland -
this was raised at the Club's Charity Mixed Rinks Competition in

| Saturday 18th
June
- Invitation Rinks Tournament |
|
A total of 24 teams
competed in this tournament, Unfortunately, the weather turned
against us while the semi-finals were being played and it became
too wet to play the final. In the friendly spirit of the day,
the finalists, from Hamilton Caley and Eddlewood bowling Clubs,
decided to call it a draw. The photograph shows the finalists of
Dougie Beattie, Jimmy Laird, Rab Lindsay and Bobby Fox from
Eddlewood with Stewart Tweedlie, Alan Nicolson, Bob Meikle and
Eddie tweedlie from Hamilton Caley and President Harry Dick.
The Club is very grateful for the sponsorship and support it has
received over the years from EG Steele and Alistair Burnett. |

| Sunday 24th April
- Open Day |
|
| To celebrate its 170th anniversary,
the
Club held an Open Day on when anyone – young or old,
novice or expert - could come along and try out the sport. The first
visitor of the day (see photo) was curious but wouldn't try the
game. After that, a good day was had by all with plenty of bowls
being thrown and lots of Easter eggs eaten! |

|
| Friday 22nd April

well as officials from Bowls Scotland and the Lanarkshire
